The minimum interest rate that lenders must use to calculate a borrower's maximum affordable mortgage payment when qualifying for a mortgage.

The government sets Canada's minimum qualifying rate for federally regulated lenders. It is equal to the greater of 5.25% or the contract rate plus 200 bps.
