Covered Bond

A covered bond is a debt securities issued by a bank, secured by a pool of uninsured mortgages. The bank issuer remains liable for the bonds, providing an extra layer of security for investors, as they have recourse to both the cover pool and the issuer. Canadian covered bonds are generally highly rated (e.g., AAA) and popular with European investors.
